Temple Flowers

The flower, before it becomes smoke.

Every fragrance in the house begins as a real flower, picked within a few hours of when it goes into oil. This is where those flowers come from.

Why it matters

A flower loses its top note within hours of picking. Most commercial incense is made from reconstructed fragrance oil precisely because real flower oil doesn't travel or store well — it has to be used almost immediately.

We solved this by staying close to the flower instead of asking the flower to travel to us. Our mogra and jasmine are grown or sourced within a morning's distance of the workshop; our rose comes from Kannauj, where the deg-bhapka distillation method has been unchanged for centuries.

The harvest

Mogra is picked in bud, just before it opens — pickers work before sunrise so the flowers reach the still while they're still cool.

Jasmine arrives at our workshop as garland offcuts from the same farms that supply temple garlands each morning — nothing is grown solely for us, which keeps the flower economy shared with the temples it was always meant for.
